Welcome! We have created this story course to introduce written Chinese to complete beginners in a fun and engaging way. You will learn by reading a lot, not by memorizing word lists or studying grammar.

You will follow Alex, who one day finds a mysterious creature in a drawer. Through Chinese, they get to know each other and go on adventures. Who is the creature? Where does it come from? What role might it play in Alex's life? The story is split into units. Each unit introduces only a few new words, allowing you to gradually absorb their meaning and usage. The texts are much longer than what you typically see in textbooks, giving you plenty of opportunity to learn in a natural way.

The first few units might feel challenging because everything is new, but keep reading! You may be surprised how quickly you start recognizing common words.

When you read, try to focus on the meaning of the text. What are they saying? What's happening? Details and nuances will come later, along with a deeper understanding of vocabulary and grammar. You do not need to understand how a word or grammar pattern works as long as you can follow and enjoy the story.
